CRTEC
Tuba & Euphonium Competition
The CRTEC Tuba & Euphonium Competition celebrates performers at every stage of their musical journey. Whether you are a beginning school musician, a private student, a university performer, or a community amateur, these competitions provide an opportunity to receive professional feedback, showcase your musicianship, and perform alongside other dedicated low brass players.

Competition Format

Video Submission Start: September 1st, 2026

Performances are submitted by video and adjudicated by our Main Adjudicator: Michael Eastep and conference adjudicator Jennifer Stephen.

IMPORTANT: Please note that the recorded pieces should be the pieces you intend to perform at the Winner’s Concert should you advance.

A selection must consist of a single work, single or multi-movement.

Performs choses for the Winner’s Concert, can play an unaccompanied work, a work with recorded accompaniment, or a work with piano accompaniment.

All competitors must hold a current membership with the International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA).

A winner will be selected in each competition category.

Category winners will be invited to perform during the Saturday Winners' Concert.

Competition Categories
Competitions are offered for both:

Tuba

Euphonium
These divisions are intended for students participating primarily through their school music program. Competitors should enter according to both their school grade and years of experience on their instrument.
1.1 Solo - All grades up to grade 9
Choose your own unaccompanied piece. Time limit 5 minutes.
2.1 Solo - Grade 10–12 - not taking private lessons
Choose your own piece.
Time limit of 10 minutes.
3.1 Solo - University students
Choose your selection.
Time limit 15 minutes.
4.1 Solo - Community Amateur
Open to adult and community musicians
who perform for enjoyment or personal development and are not pursuing
professional performance careers.

Time limit 10 minutes.
5.1 Pre-University Chamber Ensemble
Choose your selection.
Time limit 10 minutes.
5.2 University Chamber Ensemble
